What is the key to living a long and healthy life? How can science, technology, and personal choices shape a future where everyone enjoys better health for longer? These questions are explored in the new podcast series “(De)F√ormule,” produced by Universiteit van Nederland and the Institute 4 Preventive Health.

This series offers an accessible perspective on health research. EWUU alliance researchers Roel Vermeulen (UU/UMCU), Ellen Kampman (WUR), Kirsten Verkooijen (WUR), and Masi Mohammadi (TU/e) share their insights on how to optimise our lives for better health and longevity.

In the fourth episode, TU/e professor Masi Mohammadi takes the spotlight.

(De)F√ormule: How Your Home Can Keep You Healthy – Masi Mohammadi (TU/e)

This episode explores the connection between our living environments and long-term health. Masi Mohammadi demonstrates how the design of our homes and neighbourhoods can significantly impact health and well-being. She explains that stressors such as noise pollution can contribute to health problems, while familiar and empathetic environments promote well-being.

Mohammadi advocates for smarter housing designs that not only support health but also foster social interaction. Her current research focuses on innovative living environments, such as “empathetic homes” for people with dementia. These homes use subtle cues to support residents’ well-being, offering a powerful example of how living spaces can act as a tool for healthier living. This approach forms part of the formula for a long and healthy life, using our surroundings as the medicine.

Bridging Science and Practice

The “(De)F√ormule” podcast aligns with the mission of the Institute 4 Preventive Health, which envisions a society where preventive health takes centre stage. By connecting scientific research with practical applications, the institute develops innovative solutions to promote health and address societal challenges. Through this podcast, the institute brings its mission to life in an engaging and accessible way.
