You are invited to submit your research for a presentation during a breakout session at the Preventive Health Conference 2025. This year’s conference theme challenges us all to turn things “Upside down: shifting perspectives on health in everyday places.”

The session “Health@Home: Ageing and Agency Turned Upside Down,” takes this challenge to heart. We are moving beyond the conventional narrative of ageing as a period of decline and the home as a site of passive care. We want to flip the script.

We are asking you: How does your research turn a traditional assumption about health, ageing, or the home environment on its head?

  • How can we re-imagine the home not as a place for monitoring, but as a platform for empowerment?
  • How do we shift the focus from merely “ageing in place” to actively enabling people to “thrive in place”?
  • How can technology and data be used not just to assist, but to enhance agency, autonomy, and connection?
  • What happens when we view older adults not as patients or care recipients, but as expert users, active agents, and essential co-designers of their own health solutions?

This session will be built from the ground up, based on your submissions. We are looking for cutting-edge research that explores these questions and offers new, “upside down” perspectives.

Example of topics

We welcome submissions from all disciplines. Topics may include, but are not limited to Healthy and Empowered Ageing, Supported Independence at Home, Empathic Home Care, Hospital at Home, Smart Healthy Homes & Communities, Technology & Agency, Co-Design & Participatory Health Research, Smart Governance & Care Responsibility.

Session Format

In the spirit of our ‘upside down’ approach, each of the two 75-minute blocks will be preceded by a panel discussion. This initial conversation will spark the debate and pose the central questions that our presenters will then explore in their short (12-15 minute) deep dives.
