On Thursday 22 January, the Institute for Preventive Health hosted a 45-minute online Lunch & Learn exploring how preventive health innovations can better support people in vulnerable life stages and communities that are often under-served by traditional lifestyle interventions.

The session brought together insights from two seed-funded projects:

Early Support for Families
Janine Faessen (Wageningen University & Research) shared how inclusive early-life nutrition support—during pregnancy, lactation and early childhood—can help reduce health inequalities. She reflected on the plans and earlier studies underpinning the seed funded PRISTA initiative, which aims to develop an inclusive digital tool offering reliable, up-to-date dietary guidance for women and young parents from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Active Living for Under-Served Groups
Cem Ataman (Eindhoven University of Technology) discussed the seed funded EQUAL project and its focus on stimulating active living among groups often not reached by conventional lifestyle interventions. He highlighted the project’s aims, methods and emerging insights from his work within the EQUAL team.

Hosted and moderated by Martine van der Mast (Programme Director, Institute for Preventive Health), the session concluded with an extended Q&A, creating space for exchange, reflection and practical questions on inclusive design and the role of digital tools in prevention.
